Iglw is the brainchild of guitarist Aled Thomas and songwriter Gruffydd Owen, who formed the band around Christmas 2005. By summer 2006, the charismatic Loeri Daniels had joined the ranks as vocalist, and Meredudd Jones had started to bang the drums.
This album rounds off a successful year for the band. It was recorded at Bridgerow Studios and produced by Andy ‘Wal’ Couchlan. This is iglw’s debut album: a record that is energetic and eclectic, with an emotional core. The songs range from the sensitive folk of ‘Y Cefnfor Du’ (The Dark Ocean) to the angry three-chord rock found on the title track ‘Anghofio am Yfory’ (Forget about Tomorrow). In between, there lies a myriad of styles from disco to glam rock and even country. Yet somehow ‘Anghofio am Yfory’ sounds like no one else but iglw; a melting pot of inspiration that forms a coherent musical vision.
It is important for this record to be a true reflection of the band at this time and place, therefore it was integral that the album was written and sung in Welsh, our native tongue. This makes our music free from the well-worn clichés of rock and roll. Enjoy.
